Yes, this is the place that the guys from Rio own. It has been going downhill for the past 4 months or so. I was there with Fatty and have to agree. They have cut back on the size and quality of the fish they serve there now. They even stiff you on avacado if you order a caterpillar roll. I wont be going there anymore. It seems their specialty now is lots of rice for lots of money, and no fish! Dont bother ordering the Yaki Soba which is supposed to have Chicken, Pork, and Shrimp over a bed of fried noodles. I got a plate of soggy noodles, a little bit of carrot and cabbage, a piece of chicken about 3/4 of an inch big (no exaggeration here boys), no pork (that I could find), and maybe the tail of a shrimp, maybe. All that for a whopping $4000 colones. HOW CAN THEY DO IT SO CHEAP?????

Samurai is by long and far the best sushi in the country. I have tried every joint in town and have found nothing close to it. Talk to the manager and tell him to hook you up. Where else is there to go?

I would like to vehemently disagree with the comment that Samurai has the best sushi in this country.

I dont know about worldwide but as far as these CR borders is concerned, I think I hold for most sushi eaten in the past 5 years.

In case you doubt that, you can do a search right here in the bookie folder and youll find other threads by me on this same topic.....

Samurai has never been the best sushi restaurant in Costa Rica. The quality is not bad but the prices are ridiculous, the story ends right here. Yes, it can be good but several other places are of better quality and the prices are at least within the building.

At Samurai, you are paying for all the pretty fishies that swim around the tanks, both downstairs and upstairs.... The 2 person boat is absurdly expensive around 18 thousand colones.

I can go on and on, but if youve been there once you know what Im talking about. The only value Samurai really has is when it comes to lunches as their bento boxes are pretty decent and are not that expensive.

If you are talking about the best sushi restaurant in Costa Rica, that title belongs to Sakura, hands down. Noel and Arsenio are the two best chefs that this country has when it comes to preparing sushi. The food is ALWAYS 100% perfect, the prices are not as high and heck, they even give u a sunomono styled salad for free when you arrive and its actually big....

Now, Im not saying avoid Samurai, the place is above average but you have to be ready to unload the wad of bills..... and its not as good as Sakura.

If you have any more questions, bring em on.....

And yeah, Sakura rocks. For anyone wondering, the restaurant is at the Hotel Herradura and no, I have no financial interest there.

SLIM, YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY A PINHEAD. I COME TO COSTA RICA TWICE A YEAR TO VISIT. I BRING IN FRIENDS FROM LA WHO EAT AT KOI AND SUSHI ROKU, TWO OF THE BEST SPOTS IN THE STATES. THEY ATE THE SAMURAI SALAD AND THE WHITE TUNA AND SAID THAT IT IS THE BEST THEY HAVE EVER HAD, AND I AGREE. THE LAST TIME I WENT IN, THE MANAGER PICKED UP ALL OF OUR DESERTS AND A ROUND OF DRINKS. I NEVER GOT THAT AT SAKURA. WAKE UP AND GO BACK TO ROSTI POLLO WHERE YOU BELONG.

if my 2 cents have any value here is beside the point, been in CR for 3 years, samurai was never not good to me, sakura is close and very good and fairly priced, i don't think either is bad, their both good, but you cant compare them to US good sushi restaurants, keep in mind, not sure if you do or don't......but tip well and you will always be taken care of wherever you go.

Truth, I've been there on their "all you can eat" tuesday nights. For 8000 colones, it is probably more now, it is not worth it. It takes forever to get your food, when you do get it it is a very small portion, you can only order 1 item at a time, and the rice is warm, and like I stated above you get only warm rice and no fish.

BigBoxing, try Sakura and tell me Samurai is better than there. As it stands now I consider Samurai not far away as far as quality goes as Sushi Itto, which is the worst!

Slim, I agree that Sakura is the best sushi in C.R. at the time. Its a bit farther for the Escazu crowd, but well worth it in my opinion. Have you been to either of the Samurai's in the last week and a half? Try it again and tell me if the quality is not bad. I think you'll find it even more of a rip off.

Weekendalki, your friends must've been stoned and drunk. Which manager was it? Raul or Diego? Neither of them work there anymore. Wonder why?

Costarich, see what I told slim. Try Samurai again and see if you think they are still good.

Personally I hope that the last couple times I went was just a fluke on their part, as I used to enjoy going there, but I dont think so.

eggplant out.

Are you sure that you meant to say Samurai blows them out of the water? Or Sakura?

I am disapointed about Raul or Diego not working at Samurai anymore. I thought those guys were great for the place. I wonder if this this is why quality is reportedly going down hill?

Hey Slim, By the way... whatever happened to Crash?

Doctor Who, hes still at the UNA hospital. A girl wanted to take him but I think she might have trouble taking him now. I go visit him every night so I know he is doing good but I still need to find him a home.

Perhaps you know someone who would like him? He is the sweetest dog anyone can have, I can take em there and have them meet the dog so they can get to know him if they would like
